How To Join

We’re thrilled that you are interested in joining our community! Joining is easy and requires 4 simple steps:

Step 1: Tour the Facility

Step 2: Purchase Membership

Step 3: Set up Openpath and Skedda

Step 4: Take an Intro Class

Create a Neon account

Neon is a cloud-based system that we use to manage memberships, classes and lots more. If you haven’t already created a Neon account, get started here.

Orientation and Facility Tour

Learn more about Asmbly and see the shop with no obligation to join! We’ll give some background on Asmbly – things like shop etiquette, communication channels, how to schedule shop time, etc. – followed by a tour around the entire makerspace. Attending an orientation session is required before gaining facility access.

Orientation + Tour sessions happen several days a week. A complete schedule of sessions is available on our Classes page under the “Orientation” category. You must sign up for a Neon account before you can book an orientation.

Sign our Membership Agreement and Liability Waiver

Before your membership can become official, you must first sign the Agreement & Liability Waiver here.

Purchase your Asmbly Membership

Login and select “Purchase/Edit Membership.” You may wish to wait until you have completed step 4 before you purchase your membership.

Join our Discourse

Discourse is our online forum and our primary mode of communicating with members. Just click the “Sign Up” link in the top right corner.

NOTE: Please use the same email address for your Neon account, signing waivers, joining Discourse and Skedda. We synchronize these various platforms using your email address.

Openpath

Openpath is the system we use to manage facility access. You will receive an email invitation to create an Openpath account after attending an orientation, signing the waiver, and purchasing a membership. It can take up to a day to receive this email after completing all requirements. If it has been longer than 24 hours and you are sure you have completed all three requirements, send us an email at membership@asmbly.org.

Skedda

Create a Skedda account using the link that you will receive in your membership confirmation email. Skedda is our online scheduling app. You must schedule all shop/machine time in Skedda.

NOTE: Please use the same email address for your Neon account, signing waivers, joining Discourse and Skedda. We synchronize these various platforms using your email address.

Take required intro classes

Asmbly has two general shop safety classes: Woodshop Safety and Metal Shop Safety. These safety classes are required before using any equipment in the woodshop or metal shop, respectively, regardless of experience. A list of all upcoming safety classes can be found here.

In addition to the general shop safety classes, most equipment at Asmbly has a required intro class you must take before gaining equipment access. You can find our current class schedule here.

Need a faster option for getting started? Fast track your membership following these steps.

Step 1: Book a Fast Track Session

Step 2: Purchase Membership

Step 3: Start Making!

We understand that some people are itching to get making as soon as possible. To better serve this group, Asmbly now offers a fast track to becoming a member.

Since this 1-on-1 class is scheduled on an individual basis, Asmbly charges $95 to go this route. Completing the New Member Fast Track process will give you full member access the day you complete your session.

Attend your Fast Track session

On the day of your Fast Track session, we will cover all of the Orientation material, take a tour around the space, and complete either Woodshop Safety or Metal Shop Safety. We will also take care of getting your Openpath and Skedda accounts setup so you can begin making as soon as your session is complete.

Your Fast Track session will clear you for using either the Woodshop or the Metal Shop. Due to time constraints and the number of tools reviewed, Fast Track sessions can only cover one of these two shop areas.

In addition to the general shop safety classes, most equipment at Asmbly has a required intro class you must take before gaining equipment access. You can find our current class schedule here.
